The situation in Haiti is truly awful. Many thousands of people have died and tens of thousands more have been left without homes, shelter or security.
The Disasters Emergency Committee, composed of 13 British NGOs, have set up an appeal to provide humanitarian aid.
Donations to the appeal can be made by calling 0370 60 60 900 or visiting www.dec.org.uk
North Easterner born and bred. I have set up this blog to talk about the big issues that I think politicians should care about. This includes re-engaging with working class communities; achieving social mobility and breaking down the barriers facing people from lower socio-economic backgrounds;rebuilding democracy; rebalancing the economy and reinvigorating the North Eastern economy through more industry and more private sector jobs; delivering high quality public services; achieving a fairer society; and re-empowering people at every level.
Chances are I will also be talking about music, music festivals and gigs, Sunderland AFC, cricket, horse racing and darts.
