Labour forgot the North East yet again this week when it announced the route for the new high speed rail network. Thr route takes in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow and Edinburgh. As is so often the case with this Government, the North East is not included in their plans. This is bound to have an impact on the North Eastern economy and business links for the North East.
Where were the voices of North Eastern Labour MP's when this decision that puts the North East at a disadvantage was made? The voices of North Eastern Labour MPs remained silent.
Once again, the Government has chosen to forget about the North East. It has ignored the area too often and for too long. The MPs elected to represent the people of the North East seem totally uninterested in standing up for the North East.
As I have said so many times, the Labour Party in this area has taken people for granted for too long. If elected as MP for North Durham, I will stand up for the North East seven days a week, 365 days a year. This decision is yet another reason why the voters of North Durham will demand change at the next election.
